i’ve just started back on birth control (microgynon 30) after about 3 months of not taking it. i had no issues with the pill before apart from some cramping and heavier periods, which i expected. just finished my first month of the pack and im having a few unusual symptoms- not sure if i should be concerned firstly, a couple weeks before i started back on the pill i took a morning after pill as i had unprotected sex. it was a few weeks before my period was due so i knew it would delay it. i had unprotected sex again during the time that i assume my ovulation got delayed to by the pill. i ended up not having my period for a while but thought nothing of it since i’d taken two pregnancy tests and they were both negative. i started back on the combined pill and didnt experience any breakthrough bleeding (which was unexpected since my period was technically due) but once i took my break week, i had an extremely painful period. not too much blood but i had two very big clots/lining pieces. ive never experienced this before and wasnt sure whether this was caused by the morning after pill, the regular combined pill or something else. ive also had other issues with bleeding. i’m at the end of my period now and the blood is obviously not very heavy and dark in colour. however yesterday when i had sex with my boyfriend it was slightly more painful than usual when he hit my cervix and afterwards i started bleeding quite a lot of bright red fresh blood for a few hours. it didnt hurt at all apart from the pressure on my cervix initially but i’m confused as to what could have caused this as i’ve never experienced it before. does any of this sound abnormal? should i just wait and see if it happens again or check with a doctor?

So you’re back in the adjustment phase of the pill in which you can experience heightened side effects and your body was also trying to adjust off the pill in those 3 months you weren’t taking it, plus the morning after pill can lead to side effects for potentially several months. So it’s not surprising you’re experiencing a lot of unwanted side effects unfortunately

To me it seems normal that blood may seem redder/fresher when you're bleeding after sex due to increased blood flow and contracting muscles and tissues. Also it's not the best that the sex was painful, your body might not have had enough time to properly prepare for penetration, so the cervix would be sitting lower. Him hitting it can cause cramping or additional bleeding, so that could also be something to consider. Everything else seems normal as explained by @bluerose9
