Hi, oh I need your advice. I’m thinking of switching from my birth control now which is linked to the bottom to a copper IUD as I feel as if my birth control has been negatively affecting my moods and causing me to be really anxious does anyone have any advice on the copper IUD and is it just as good at preventing pregnancy as birth control is with perfect use? 💊💊💊💊💊💊💊💊💊💊💊💊💊💊💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💊💊💊💊💊💊💊 Brand: Microgynon 30

If you have naturally heavier periods you’re probably best to avoid it as the most common complaint with it is that it can make periods heavier. As it’s non hormonal there’s not really any other common side effects. The copper coil is one of the most effective birth control methods and can also be used as emergency contraception, it also can stay in for multiple years so that’s a plus too.

I was on microgynon for about 8 years and i switched to the hormonal IUD (kyleena) roughly 2yrs ago. I do feel better mood wise generally speaking, and i would 100% say that i prefer my IUD to the pill!! The copper IUD commonly makes periods heavier and more painful. The hormonal one has less of this - i do get cramps now compared to before but i barely bleed at all / dont have a ‘period’. Theres still hormonal effects but theyre less concentrated in an IUD so for me its still better
