Hi guys, I’m very worried because I lost my virginity on Sunday which is now 5 days ago, and straight after I got light bleeding which i assume is my hymen breaking. However, the bleeding has continued to get heavier, and I am still bleeding 5 days on as heavy as a period with no sign of decrease. I started taking birth control about four weeks ago and am on the last few pills of my pack (active not placebo) so I wonder if maybe it’s to do with spotting from that, but idk the bleeding’s just really more than I expected and my local sex clinic drop in is closed until Tuesday. I was supposed to have sex again in two days but I don’t see that happening with the current amount of bleeding. Does anyone know anything about this and if this is normal? Should I speak to a doctor? The thing is while I’m legally allowed to book a doctors appointment for free without my parents knowing, I don’t currently have control of my NHS account and idk how to ask for the details for it without asking my parents who would then ask why, so idk which route I can go down without notifying my parents. Please help!

Since you’ve just started birth control it’s safe to assume that you’re experiencing normal side effects—which is called breakthrough bleeding seeing that you’re on active pills, this can happen anytime while on your active pills, you should also keep in mind that you need to allow your body time to adjust to being on birth control which is an adjustment phase that can last up to 6 months. Every user is different a lot of people experience bleeding on break days which is called withdrawal bleeding. It’s unfortunately a normal birth control side effect.
